Befriend Your Loneliness

Sometimes people don’t understand us or avoid us and we start to feel lonely. You can use your loneliness to become your own best friend by doing a few physical activities from the Wiggle Jar. Just scroll down to start your practice.

Your Wiggle Warrior® Practice:

First, give yourself a hug, and let out a big sigh.

(Really, try it!)

Next, run your fingers through your hair with both hands for 10 seconds.

Next, gently pinch around the outside of your ears 6 times.

(Or squish your cheeks 6 times)

Next, reach your hands up to the sky 10 times and think about one thing that you really like to do all by yourself.

And then to finish, take 5 calming breaths to shrink your loneliness to the size of a jellybean.

(Turn on the sound and press play.)

Now, ask yourself, “Do I feel misunderstood or overlooked in some way? Am I feeling unwelcome or rejected?” Loneliness shows up to help us rethink our relationships, and reset how we want to be treated. While you are sorting that out, you can use this time to become your own best friend.

Take yourself on a walk, make yourself a snack, read yourself a book, and just enjoy your own company.

You are not alone. You are with your Self  -- the calm, creative, open-hearted person that underlies your stress. That’s YOU!

The more you learn how to become your own best friend, the more you will find other people who truly appreciate you too.

Use this time to discover yourself - what you like, what you don't like, and how you want to be treated by others.

Loneliness will teach you to care for yourself, to ask for help when you need it, and discover new interests and talents.

Take all the time you need.
